Many people never stop to think that they are completely dependent on the power company. Sure, you might pay your bill on time but at any point in time, they could shut down your power and there is really nothing you can do about it other than complain and sit there without electric and possibly without heat. This could happen because of politics, especially since America is still a country that is dependent on others for fuel. It could happen for a number of other reasons. Having electric service ran to your home through the power company is a privilege, not a right. So it is not like you can have the police do anything if suddenly they stop providing you with electric.
What you can do however is to put together some DIY electric solar panels and produce your own energy. You can easily produce enough energy to run your entire house. Using the energy from the sun, you will be able to run your lights, power your radio and cook your food. You will be able to run your household as normal but with one major exception, you do not have to ask permission from anyone and you do not have to pay a monthly bill.
Of course, there is a cost to take into consideration when you first create the panels. It may not be extremely expensive, but it is nothing that you cannot handle. Even if you feel that the total cost is not something that you can do right now, there is the option of a loan or you can install your panels one at a time. Many people decide to slowly upgrade their house to all solar panels. They will start with one or two panels and use that energy first before using anything from the power company. This still offers a tremendous savings for you. Over time, you could add any additional DIY electric solar panels that you need in order to get your home completely set up on solar power.
Diy solar electricity is a great way to save money and help the environment. Check out http://www.squidoo.com/solardiypanels to learn exactly how to make your own solar panels for your home.
